Cut Wrists?

What's the best instrument to use to cut your wrists with?

I've tried using pins and a pen knife but they don't do much. I never seem to be able to draw blood with scissors and knives. I usually use a compass because it's portable and if anyone asks I can say it's for school, but the incisions are never very deep.

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a scalpel?

Also, what are the best excuses for cuts on your wrists? "The cat scratched me" is starting to get old and people are getting suspicious when I change in PE.
