has anyone used the new varathane floor sander?

I am looking at finishing my hardwood floors. I need to do more than light sanding. I already see bare wood and want to completely sand before I stain and varnish. I want a professional-looking job. The web site makes it look easy. I want to get some feedback from someone that actually used this. Can I do three 12x12 rooms in one day, if they are empty? I'm just looking at sanding them now and staining them in a day or two. But the sander is rented by the day. So I want to get all the sanding out of the way. Thanks in advance.

I actually used the (Varathane) system on a 16 x 14 ft room yesterday and am currently applying the last couple of finish coats today. The sytem is surprisingly quite good. I only needed 3 sets of 36 grit to get down to bare wood (this I followed with 50 and 80 grits respectively). However the low spots in the floor (those that the Varathane sander can't get to, depending on how level your floor is) can be a pain in the a**, and required me to use a palm sander in these areas as well as the edges of the room. I have 65 year old floors that were likewise down to bare wood in certain areas and in addition had pet stains and scratches from previous owners. I was able to get rid of the majority of these issues. I rented the sander at Lowes at noon and returned it at 9:30 pm the same day ($200 deposit and $35 per day rental... and thats for the day only ....not 24 hours....wish I knew that earlier on as I would have rented it at like 7am). I did snd for most of the day on this one room so I think you probably will need 2 days of the rental. The system is foolproof. Unlike the drum sanders that will eat through the floor if they aren't moved constantly, the varathane ezv sander can actually be left in the same spot for some time without adverse sequela. I have never refinished a floor before and I believe I did a very good job for very little money. 3 rooms will definitley take some time (which depends on the current state of the floors), and the sanding is the rate limiting step. I used a gallon of water based poly (lowes $46), each coat applied after 3 hours with a sanding before the 4th coat (which I will do tomorrow), using a synthetic brush applicator and a good synthetic brush for the edges and smoothing out thick spots. Seriously I would go for it. You'll likely save a lot of money, the alternative paying a pro big bucks to do the same thing. If you have any other specific questions let me know.
