What are some effective ways of drilling through glass?

I started drilling my glass bottle and got about 1mm in, but there seems to be a layer of glass I cannot pass. I have went through many diamond bits but all they do is grind around making my hole wider than it is deeper. I have both a drill and a cheap Dremel tool from Walmart. On my practice run, I successfully drilled a hole into a glass mug I found. But now I'm stuck on my bottle with the hole only getting wider. Are there some techniques or tricks I can use to get pass this layer of glass?

Basically you work hardened it. Get rid of the diamond tools. Go to your hardware and get a glass and tile bit. They are made from solid carbide. It will work to get through this layer.

Common diamond tools are nothing more than pieces of diamond cemented into steel. They produce allot of heat. And more often melt the tool and work harden the material.
