Are American house hold power points the same as Australian?

I live in Australia and just purchased a small power tool from america, which has a rechargeable battery. But the 2 prongs that came out of the charger to go into the power point are dead straight and parallel to each other, but my power point needs the prongs to be on a slight angle to each other to be able to fit in my power outlet. Can I get an adapter for this? What does an american power outlet look like, are they the same as Australian?

You may need a transformer power convertor, if its label doesn't specify 240V. If it does say it can take 240V, all you need is a plug convertor.

If the charger uses a separable transformer, you can get a similar one domestically, from Dick Smith or the like.
