I have raised panel cabinets and want to change center to beaded.?

Without replacing the doors, is there a way to remove the center panel and replace with bead board? Could you do this in the same manner you'd install a glass panel? I'm not concerned with matching the finish as I will be painting the entire kitchen.

I have done this, removing raised panels and replacing with glass or brass wire. The technique would be the same for you.

* Cut out the panel, leaving 1/2" or so from the rails and stiles. Remove the knockout.
* Chisel the top and bottom to remove the center sections. If it is solid wood, it will split easily along the grain direction.
* The sides should then pull out.
(A properly made raised panel should not be glued anywhere around the perimeter, but be free to "float". There might be a small pin at top and bottom center to keep it centered.
* From the back, use a router with a rabbetting bit to form a rabbet from the backside into which the new panel can be inserted.
* Cut your panels to size. Finish before inserting.ll
* Add molding strips, e,.g. 1/4" quarter round all around the back side, miter corners and pin in place. This is the same as you would do for a glass panel.
* Apply finish to the molding strip.
