Abrasive blocks and sticks as aids in watch servicing

Watch servicing involves cleaning, smoothing and polishing of parts. There are deposits to be cleaned out, scratches to be removed, dull finishes to polish etc. Abrasive blocks, abrasive sticks and polishing compounds & kits are available as aids in the above processes.

The 12 Piece Assorted Emery Buff sticks set has 3 different grain types each with 4 sticks. These sticks serve multiple purposes and are suited to refurbish metals and plastic surfaces; they are also used in general purpose cleaning. Specifically, they can be used to re-grain clasps, touch up scratches on watch bracelets, feather plastic cases, polish crystals and to clean rusted parts. When used with different cleaning and polishing liquids, these sticks can give different finishes.

In the 150 Piece Rotary attachment set, there are shaped grinding wheels for cleaning and deburring, sanding drums and flap wheels for rough shaping and smoothing, shaped diamond and carbide cutters for precise work on jade, ceramic etc, cut off wheels for cutting metals, rubber emery, bristle brush wheels, radials and axial for light cleaning and polishing, stainless steel and brass brush wheels, radials and axial to remove rust and corrosion, felt and cloth wheels for polishing metal and plastic surfaces and HSS twist drill bits for drilling holes on metals and other surfaces. There are also some accessories to be used with the above like a dressing stone for cleaning the grinding wheels. All these come in a compact plastic storage case.

The Abrasive cleaner Garryflex is ideally suited to polish, remove dust and to clean in general and can work on many types of materials. It is a special silicone carbide filled rubber block and is most often used in bracelet refurbishment. It is good on flat as well as curved surfaces. It can be used dry or with water, soap and other medium. It comes in variants like fine to very coarse grain. Bergeon’s abrasive blocks are made of silicon carbide and synthetic rubber; they are useful for polishing and cleaning too. They also come in variants that range from fine to coarse.

With the general purpose metal polishing kit, watch makers can polish all types of metals like aluminium alloys, brass, copper and steel to a mirror like finish. This kit includes a sisal polishing mop that is fast and hard cutting and suitable for first stage mopping operations, a colour stitch polishing mop that is used in general polishing, a quality finishing mop that comprises cotton discs that are best suited for final finishing, a Tripmax Brown polishing compound for first cut and polishing, a Bluemax Blue polishing compound for final finishing on non-ferrous metals, Abramax Grey polishing compound for first flattening on steel, Profin Pink polishing compound for high polishing on steels, a bag of Vienna Lime to remove polishing compound residues, a dust mask and a pair of Riggers gloves.
