Electric motor for turning automatic blind?

I'm building an automatic outdoor roll up blind. It will consist of an 11 foot iron pipe on which an 11X6 foot piece of shadecloth will be wound. I need an electric motor to power it. Essentially, it needs to be a low RPM, fairly high-torque motor that is reversible. I was thinking about getting an inexpensive 12V winch to power it. I realize that woud be overkill, torque-wise, but it would be weatherproof, about the right speed, and reversible. Any other ideas? Any thoughts on how to economically step-down 110 to 12V? How many watts would I need a transformer to be in order to equal a 12V battery?

If you are going to Mickey Mouse it , and build it yourself, you could consider and electric drill. reverse and speed control is already there, and the price is right.
