How do you help someone get over a fear, especially of animals?

My roommate has a fear of mice that is really effecting her, and thus effecting me and our other roommate. We live in an old apartment building that has a few holes and leaks, you know the drill. Since it's getting colder mice are starting to come in. My other roommate and I are not concerned about the mice at all, but it's not like we are uncleanly. My fearful roommate thinks she is the only one cleaning and that it's our fault that the mice are coming in. We've talked, and I think I finally convinced her that she needs to take some steps on her own to deal with her fears internally instead of dealing with them by stuffing our cabinets with steel wool and setting traps. How can I help her get over her fear?

To me, if mice have been seen in the apartment, she is acting normally by setting traps and using other methods to deter their infiltration.

Mice harbor diseases. They need to be feared in the area where one lives, sleeps and eats.

However, she can certainly attempt to keep her fear of, or anxiety about. the mice to a reasonable level. One methodology you might think about is to attempt to convince her to view mice in a virtual world on the internet in a benign, non-threatening setting, either in video or image form. This exposure may assure her that mice aren't as threatening to her life as she currently perceives.

Virtual exposure may lessen her fear to a degree.
