Which guitar to buy for a learner?

hi there,

Well firstly I have no ideas about guitar at all.

I always wanted to play one I recently downloaded Garage Band guitar tutorials on my MacBook. So wanted to buy a guitar to learn.
My basic requirement is learning. So I was looking for a rather basic guitar not very hifi...
I saw a few on Bajaao.com, but I really don't know which brand to buy what kinda to buy??? So before going to the market, can anyone here guide me what to look for ..

After looking at the replies... I want to add, that I want to play soft musics and some bollywood songs... I surely wont go for an Electronic guitar... Acoustic is the way for me..

My budget is around 3k-4k...

Mumbai is a major city but it really depends on what guitars are available to you, and how well they feel in your hands.

Just as important is what style of music you wish to play.
It would be a mistake to pick up an electric if a) you have no amplifier, and b) you wish to play acoustic music. The same holds true if you buy an acoustic yet wish to rock out to hard rock music.

Your best bet is to take along a friend who knows something about guitars & who can explain things to you if there is no shop available to you. Most importantly, when you're at the instrument shop, pick up the instrument and get a feel for it. Guitars are different for each person and what might work for another person may not work at all for you.
